Christiana Care physicians, nurses, staff and volunteers filled the newly completed lobby of Wilmington Hospital on June 20 to celebrate the completion of phase I of the Wilmington Transformation.

“This facility is a shining tribute to The Christiana Care Way,” Chief Medical Officer Janice Nevin, M.D., MPH, told the standing-room-only crowd. “What you have done throughout this is always put patients and families first, and you’ve grown and flourished.”

Edmondo Robinson, M.D., MBA, FACP, Physician-in-Chief of Wilmington Hospital, echoed those sentiments and added, “The strength, the dedication, the community spirit of this campus has really driven our ability to get this transformation accomplished. That support has been inspirational to me. Thank you, all, for the work you’ve done and the work and care you’ve provided through this transformation — and for what you’re going to do as we continue this transformation.”

Rae Burton, the founding member of the Wilmington Patient & Family Advisory Council, thanked the staff and her fellow patient and family advisers for the opportunity to partner with Christiana Care in finding new ways to enhance the patient experience and improve the health of the community. Many members of the council were on hand to celebrate the event.

After a ribbon cutting, attendees enjoyed refreshments and self-guided tours of the new facility, including the outpatient pharmacy, registration and testing area, gift shop and state-of-the-art Emergency Department, where members of the First State School Steel Drum Band continued the day’s themes with their renditions of Katy Perry’s “Firework” and the Bill Withers classic “Lean on Me.”
